Brno is the capital of South Moravian Region. Two hills form the characteristic silhouette of this town, located on the confluence of the rivers Svratka and Svitava. The first hill is dominated by Spilberk Castle, a national cultural monument, the other, called Petrov by St. Peter´s and Paul´s Cathedral. Tle city´s historical centre is represented by Zelny trh (the Vegetable Market), located below Petrov and the Old Town Hall, with its tower that offers magnificent views of the surrounding area. Although the inhabitants of Brno are not oblivious to their town´s history, they rather live for the present. Especially since 1928, when exhibition ground were opened there, Brno has been the town of trade fairs and exhibitions. The Brno Racing Track with its main course, the so called Brno Circuit, boasts a history spanning over more than 70 years.
